Twelve year old Nora desperately wants to ride the Cyclone, a shaky wooden roller coaster at Coney Island but none of her family will ride with her until Nora blackmails her cousin Riley into joining her. When the girls get off of the ride, however, Riley collapses and is whisked to the hospital in a coma with a stroke. Nora is overwhelmed with guilt, believing that she is responsible for what has happened even though doctors say it resulted from Riley’s undiagnosed heart condition. Even when Riley emerges from the coma, she faces a long recovery and has no memory of what happened to her? Can Nora find a way to deal with her guilt and help Riley regain all she has lost? A story of sensitivity for older readers.
